Inspired to Succeed

"I have lived in Deer Park all of my life and have always been passionate about the City of Deer Park! When I was a little girl, my family and I enjoyed all of the services the city had to offer. Now, as an adult, I have come to realize how those services come into play - they don't just magically happen - they are ideas that dedicated employees working independently and then collaborating in a group brainstorm and come into fruition. The employees that the City of Deer Park hires are not ordinary individuals - they are diverse individuals that have extraordinary ideas and talents - they truly want to see their community grow and be the best it can be. Times are always shifting and growing. New trends cause us to stay alert, and it is a joy working in an environment where you learn something new every day. I have never dreaded coming into work; rather, I come in every day excited to tackle a new project, solve a new problem, and learn something new in the process with the support of a wonderful team of encouraging leaders. I have been working for the city for the past 21 years and volunteered 7 years before that and consider it an honor to work for an organization that appreciates its employees and truly inspires them to succeed."

A Dream Come True

"Ever since I was a kid, I always wanted to be a police officer. Events throughout my life prevented me from realizing that dream. I was getting older and my dream was dying until I saw the ad for the Deer Park Police Department in late August of 2001. I met with career services Lieutenant Wade Keeney, and he encouraged me to try out for the job even though I soon would be turning 40 years old. The whole experience was professional; I was treated with respect and made to feel I was important to the organization. I got the job and was trained by highly educated, professional police officers. Everyone in the department from chief to patrol officer conducts themselves with integrity and professionalism, and they expect the same of me. I have enjoyed all the challenging assignments that I had in the last seven years. I am currently the recruiting officer for the department, and my goal is to insure that we are keeping the tradition of bringing in the best qualified personnel to join our team of dedicated police officers, telecommunicators, and public safety attendants."
