Deer Park resident advisory:
During their regular meeting on Tuesday, April 7, the Deer Park City Council voted to postpone the May 2, 2020 General and Special Election. The election – which includes a General Election for three Council Member positions (Positions four, five and six) and also a Special Election for the adoption of a Type B Additional Sales Tax within the City at the rate of one-half of one percent – will be held on November 3, 2020.
The vote follows an executive order issued by Governor Greg Abbott on March 31, 2020, directing that all May elections be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing recommendations. Previous to the March 31 order, Governor Abbott also issued a proclamation on March 18 suspending provisions of the Texas Election Code to allow political subdivisions to postpone their 2020 local elections from May 2, 2020 until November 3, 2020.
