New Business Information (LEPC)
Do you know how to protect your employees and customers in the event of a chemical emergency, such as a release from a nearby plant, pipeline rupture, tanker truck or rail spill?
The Deer Park Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) works with local industry to maintain an effective emergency plan to protect our community. In addition to multi-media and an automated telephone notification network, there is an outside alarm system that is tested at noon on each Saturday.
The City of Deer Park, Deer Park LEPC, Deer Park Chamber of Commerce and Deer Park Independent School District have adopted “shelter in place” as the recommended protective action to follow during a chemical emergency.
We need your help in educating your customers and training your employees in the proper shelter in place procedures. Every business has both a legal responsibility and a moral obligation to protect its customers and employees. As a responsible business owner, we know you will want to follow the proper safety procedures.
The information on this website is intended to familiarize you and your employees with the proper steps to take during a chemical emergency. Please review this important information and become familiar with it, in order to know what to do in the event of an emergency. Our goal is for Deer Park businesses to train all of their employees how to shelter in place.
Your LEPC is committed to protecting you, your employees and customers. Our efforts have been nationally recognized. In fact, in 2004 and again in 2007, the Deer Park LEPC won top honors in a nationwide competition sponsored by the Chemical Education Foundation (CEF). The awards recognized Local Emergency Planning Committees that “best display a commitment to public safety and chemical product stewardship.”
Further details about how you will be warned and what to do in a chemical emergency can be found at www.deerparklepc.org. Or you can contact Jamie Galloway, Deer Park’s Director of Emergency Services, at 281-478-7298.
Sincerely,
James Stokes, Chair
Deer Park LEPC
